After few months of the Nova 8‘s dominance, comes the Huawei Nova 9, a smartphone packed with features Huawei dims fit to take the series forward.

However, a quick scan through its offerings shows that there are less than a handful of reasons you may want to upgrade. This is because comparing the Huawei Nova 9 to its predecessor brings back a lot of memories.

In terms of design, how different is the Huawei Nova 9 from the Nova 8? Can’t find any difference? Look closer maybe you might notice something different. Well in reality both smartphones are identical. Placing your hand on something different by merely accessing its chassis is near impossible.

This first utterance immediately brings to mind how I mentioned we have a lot of reminiscences on this device. So if you are big into having a fresh coat of design, then you should probably look into other Huawei smartphone series.

Taking a look at the Huawei Nova 9 rear reveal, you will find the same gradient design we saw on the Nova 8. To top it all, we have the same camera module design, with the primary camera taking its own circumference while the secondary cameras are cramped into a circumference that sits below.

You would also find the Huawei branding on the rear, which is pretty much designed to help you briskly discover the OEM.

Huawei Nova 9

Moving upfront, you will find that the Huawei Nova 9 has a 6.57-inch slightly curved display with a punch-hole camera in the top middle position, which is the same as what we had on the Nova 8. This display is based on an OLED panel. It features a density of about 392 PPI and a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.

Enthusiasts who decide to purchase the Huawei Nova 9 will have four colour options and they include Black, Blue, Green, and Violet.

Taking the specs number into consideration will show that the Huawei Nova 9 is slightly below the Nova 8. This fact holds for the rear camera setup, where we have a 48MP primary camera as opposed to the 64MP primary camera on its predecessor.

The other cameras on the rear include an 8MP ultrawide camera with an aperture of f/2.2, a 2MP depth camera with an aperture of f/2.4, and a 2MP macro camera with an aperture of f/2.4, which are basically the same as on the Nova 9. Video recording here is capped at 4K.

Moving on to the selfie side, we find the same 32MP selfie camera, which has an aperture of f/2.0. This camera is also capable of shooting 4k videos up to 30fps.

HUAWEI NOVA 9 Hardware and Software

Its processor is what makes the difference here. Onboard, we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 4G processor in lieu of the Kirin 820E processor on the Nova 8. However, the other facilitators are pretty much the same.

We have 8GB RAM, 128GB / 256GB storage options, a non-removable 5000 mAh battery, and a 66 W fast charging mechanism. As a result of that, we have the Adreno 642L GPU here as opposed to the Mali-G57 GPU on the Nova 8.

On the software side, the Huawei Nova 9 ditches the Android operating system, for the Harmony 2.0 operating system. a move facilitated by the shortcomings caused by the USA trade ban
